Effects of MgO and Y2O3 on preparation of silicon nitride ceramics by gas pressure sintering

MgO和Y2O3对气压烧结制备氮化硅陶瓷的影响

Abstract:

Silicon nitride ceramics were prepared using different amounts of MgO or Y2O3 powder as sintering aids (2%,4%,6%,8%,and 10%),ball milling,granulating,shaping and sintering at 1 750 ℃ under 6 MPa nitrogen.The relative density of the specimens was determined,the phase composition and microstructure were explored.The results show that (1)the maximum relative density reached 96.5% or 98% with 6% MgO or 8% Y2O3,respectively;(2)with the same addition,the relative density of the sample with Y2O3 powder is higher than that with MgO powder,indicating that Y2O3 preforms better than MgO in promoting sintering densification;(3)MgO and Y2O3 powder both can promote the transition from α-Si3N4 to β-Si3N4.

摘要:

分别添加不同量(质量分数分别为2%、4%、6%、8%、10%)的MgO粉或Y2O3粉作为烧结助剂,经球磨混合、造粒、成型、6 MPa氮气-1 750 ℃气压烧结制备氮化硅陶瓷,检测试样的相对密度,并分析其物相组成和显微结构。结果表明:1)MgO粉添加量为6%(w)的试样和Y2O3粉添加量为8%(w)的试样的相对密度分别达到其系列试样的最大值96.5%和98%。2)添加量相同时,添加Y2O3粉试样的相对密度均比添加MgO粉试样的大,表明Y2O3比MgO更能促进氮化硅陶瓷的烧结致密化。3)添加MgO粉或Y2O3粉均能促进α-Si3N4向 β-Si3N4 转变。
