Effect of heat-treatment temperature on crystal growth and structure of bauxite based mullite materials

摘要: 为了优化矾土基莫来石材料的性能,以Al2O3含量约为70%(w)的Ⅱ等高铝矾土为原料,采用湿法均化、高温热处理工艺制备矾土基莫来石试样,研究了热处理温度(空气气氛下分别在1 350~1 650 ℃保温4 h)对试样物相组成与显微结构的影响,并探讨了柱状莫来石晶体的生长机制。结果表明,莫来石符合固-液环境下生长发育的特征:1)1 350~1 500 ℃时,大量Al2O3溶解至SiO2非晶质中加快了二次莫来石化反应进程,该阶段液相的过饱和度较高,莫来石晶粒伴随有台阶生长的特征;2)在重结晶烧结阶段(1 500~1 650 ℃),结晶相的增加消耗了液相中的Al2O3,液相过饱和度降低,莫来石晶体表现出螺旋位错为主的生长特征;3)随热处理温度的升高(1 350~1 650 ℃),试样中的液相黏度降低,从而减少了晶体各向异性生长的阻力,使莫来石晶粒逐渐发育成长柱状并形成连续交叉的网络结构。

Abstract: In order to optimize the properties,bauxite based mullite materials were prepared by wet homogenization and high-temperature treatment,using high alumina bauxite (grade Ⅱ,Al2O3 content of about 70 mass%) as the raw material.Effect of the heat-treatment temperature (hold at 1 350-1 650 ℃ for 4 h in air atmosphere) on the phase composition and microstructure of the samples was studied,and the growth mechanism of columnar mullite crystals was discussed.The results show that the mullite conforms to the growth characteristics in a solid-liquid environment:(1)at 1 350-1 500 ℃,a large amount of Al2O3 dissolves into amorphous SiO2,which accelerates the secondary mullitization;at this stage,the supersaturation of the liquid phase is high,and the mullite grains are accompanied by the step growth characteristic;(2)during the re-crystallization sintering stage (1 500-1 650 ℃),the increase of the crystalline phase consumes Al2O3 in the liquid phases,so the liquid phase supersaturation decreases,and the mullite grains exhibit a screw dislocation growth characteristic;(3)as the heat-treatment temperature increases (1 350-1 650 ℃),the viscosity of the liquid phase decreases,thereby reducing the resistance of crystal anisotropic growth,the mullite grains gradually develop into columnar shapes and form a continuous intersecting network structure.
